Small businesses and non-profits supporting women’s health, breastfeeding, and natural childcare are teaming up on Saturday, Aug. 6 at McAllen Public Library from 10 am to 1pm to raise awareness about the health benefits of breastfeeding for mom, child and family. All this is part of World Breastfeeding Week 2016, an international effort to improve the health of women and children globally.

As part of the Big Latch On, groups of breastfeeding women coming together at registered locations around the world to all latch on their child at a set time. All the breastfeeding women and children are latched on for one minute at the set time and are counted by the witnesses. The numbers are added up and we see if we can beat previous Big Latch On records or maybe even the world record!

Renee K.
Hi. I’m Renee. Last year, I left my full-time job in New York, moved back home to Texas, bought a house, and popped out my first baby. Luckily, I did this all with my awesome husband and our totally bewildered cat. Now that we’re living in the RGV, I’m getting to know a whole new side of Texas— which I love. I also love my little girl, public libraries, fresh margaritas, adult conversation, and anything funny or satirical. (I used to love sleeping, but I think we all know that’s a lost cause.) When I’m not adjusting to life with a toddler, I'm working from home as a freelance copywriter. Oh, and downing copious amounts of iced coffee.
