Monday, May 5th through Friday, May 9th is Teacher Appreciation Week. As a former teacher, I believe this week is under celebrated. I remember the schools that I worked for providing the teachers with breakfasts, lunches and small gifts, but I never remember getting a “Thank you,” from a student or parent. After all, don’t teachers teach our children more than their ABC’s and 123’s? I know my four-year old has learned more than I ever expected going to preschool 3 days a week for a few hours at a time. I am beyond thankful to his teacher for teaching him lots of life lesson that I know I couldn’t do at home with him.
This year a mom at my son’s school got in touch with a lot of the other moms from the school and scheduled out the entire week full of breakfasts, lunches and door prizes for the teachers and staff. Using your social media can help make Teacher Appreciation Week a breeze. You definitely do not have to go all out like these moms are, but just a small note or gift will do. I know the teachers at his school are going to feel the LOVE! It’s the thought that counts!
Here is a list of easy gift ideas that won’t break the bank:
- $5 or $10 gift cards to Starbucks, Sonic. Better yet, just bring the teacher(s) a drink before or after school.
- A cupcake from one of our local bakeries.
- A homemade card from your child(ren) and from you.
- Classroom supplies: notepads, pens, pencils, etc. (I loved using cool colored pens!)
- Volunteer to help your child’s teacher one morning or afternoon.
- Homemade baked goods.
- A fun tumbler cup for the summer with a box of flavored drink mixes to go.
- Pinterest has a ton of ideas, too!
Please take a few minutes with your child(ren) to put together a “Thank you,” for their teacher. They will appreciate it, I promise! #thankateacher
