Becoming Your Mother

I had to give up a lot for you, baby

The things I thought I could never live without

Well, I learned to live without them

These are a few of my favorite things:

multiple cups of coffee

guiltless sips of wine

pants that fit just right

balanced hormones

the fear of dying

anyday date nights with your dad

 SLEEPING

But what I have gained and stand to gain is a richer life than I could have ever dreamt of

These are a few of my favorite things:

the way my heart melts when you smile at me

the laughter that ensues after you toot, giggle, or kick your legs in your bath

the way you warm my heart with your snuggles and unconditional love

Becoming your mother is the journey I’m on

It’s the journey with no end

You are my life, little one

I first caught glimpses of this journey when I:

Heard your heart beat

Saw your nose through a sonogram

Held you against my chest at the NICU

There is nothing else that competes with being your mother, my sweet pea

Thank you for this life-long journey of becoming
