You Know You’re A Mom When…

Well, we all knew that once our little bundles of joy arrived into this world that life, as we knew it would change. Here are some of the things in my life that sometimes make me laugh and say “You know you’re a mom when…”

So here it goes:

You know you’re a mom when…

  • You have wipes everywhere…in your purse, car, spare purse, diaper bag, recycle grocery bag, your in-laws house. If you think you might be there with your child like ever – then you better bring the wipes!

  • You cruise the parking lot so you can score a place next to the cart return. Because let’s face it – I’d rather carry my child a little ways to go into the store, but not so much when a cart load of groceries are involved.

  • A solo trip to Target or any store for that matter feels like a little mini vacation. It’s amazing how much you can get done without having any “little distractions” around.

  • You’ve gone from Jimmy Choo to Jimmy who? You buy for comfort! Gone are the days when I would stop and worship a beautiful pair of shoes…I mean the very idea of heels almost makes me curl up into the fetal position. Practical and comfortable is the way I roll now, which is why my clogs are now my best friend 🙂

  • Poo doesn’t bother you! It’s a stinky, messy job – but somebody’s got to do it. The quicker you get over your aversion to the sight and smell of it the better…because it just keeps on coming.

  • You can potty with an audience. Privacy is a luxury that you cannot afford especially when you’re little one is starting to explore.

  • You have your very own personal PBS or Disney favorites! Mine are Daniel Tiger, Super Why and Mulan just to name a few 🙂

  • You jump through hoops to make food fun to eat! Heart-shaped pancakes anyone?

  • You completely and totally respect and understand your mother! My mom and I have always been close, but I don’t think I was really able to appreciate her and all she did for me until I became a mom myself.

  • You understand unconditional love. I love my family. I love my husband. But, the love and bond between a mother and her child is something different altogether – I don’t think I can even put it into words, but you know what I mean, because hey, you’re a mom 🙂

Stephanie Cullum
Hey y’all! My name is Stephanie, a stay-at-home mommy, former teacher, Gemini, lover of books, quirky shoes, jeans (I own like twenty of them), coffee, travel and good food…oh and I’m also a wife and mother to my one and only daughter – she’s two and cute as a button! I’m half American and half German, born in Argentina, and grew up in Germany, Hong Kong and Singapore before moving to Dallas to go to college (go SMU). Needless to say I’m not a native to the Rio Grande Valley, but my husband is. He enticed me down here with the promise of good Mexican food, beaches, and close proximity to a foreign country – so here we are six years later and I couldn’t be happier calling the RGV home!
